Who is This Course For?

This course is aimed at learners who wish to achieve the Level 3 Personal Training Diploma. You will learn to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes as part of a career in personal training. It is geared to those with an interest in developing their skills knowledge to a professionally competent level.


Is this course for me?

You do not require any specific qualifications to enrol on this course, although it is highly recommended that you possess some prior experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights. Physical exertion and individual participation are both essential for this course, so learners will also need to be physically fit. Discussion, presentation, reading and writing are additional elements of the programme, which is why learners should also have basic Level 2 communication skills.


What does this course entail?

This programme consists of the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym) and the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (QCF). Learners must achieve at least 52 credits from the 10 mandatory units. The Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym) comprises six units:

  • Anatomy and physiology for exercise (6 credits)

  • Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity (2 credits)

  • Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment (2 credits)

  • Principles of exercise, fitness and health (4 units)

  • Planning gym-based exercise (4 units)

  • Instructing gym-based exercise (6 units)


An additional four units must be undertaken for the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (QCF), These are:

  • Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health (6 units)

  • Applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme (6 units)

  • Programming personal training with clients (7 units)

  • Delivering personal training sessions (9 units).


As well as the framework delivered in the Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instruction and Personal Training, you can expect to learn the following skills:

  • Social media marketing

  • Building a client base

  • Basic accounting and book keeping (Delivered by top accounting experts)

  • How to convert free consultations into clients

  • Setting up online personal and group training

  • Business, influence and persuasion


How is this course delivered?

The delivery of the course on a blended learning basis – partly online and partly via in-person training days at our state-of-the-art facility – enables a wide range of learners to obtain this qualification, including those who would otherwise be unable to commit to a full-time programme of education. Students of this programme are invited to attend training days with us and eventually an assessment weekend, at which stage all theoretical and practical assessments will be completed and they will be able to graduate as fitness professionals. Even beyond this stage, graduates will continue to benefit from our training and mentoring designed to help them secure their first professional post as a fitness instructor and personal trainer.
